Series Project Proposal and Inspiration Board
The first part of this project is designed to dive into the why and how of performing research as visual artists. As examples, we will look at the work of Yun-Fei Ji, Shahzia Sikander, and Kehinde Wiley.
The Project Concept Paper
Type a two page paper addressing the following:
- What is the theme will you be exploring in the paintings you create for this project? How did you choose this theme? (1 page)
- What style do you plan to work in? Representational? Abstract? Mixed media? Other? Why? (½ page)
- What image references do you plan to use? If referencing stock photos or other public domain images, make sure you are not simply reproducing the photo. If you are going to use a model or real objects, how do you plan to access those resources. Why are you using these images? (½ page).
One a sheet of 18” x 24” paper create an inspiration board for your project. This will be assembled as a collage and include your preliminary project sketches, photos of inspiration sources, palette swatches, and any other visual research you’d like to include.
Working critique, Oct. 30 Please bring initial project sketches, photos of inspiration sources, and notes to class. We will workshop your ideas in class.
